There are a variety of home remedies for getting pregnant: cutting out alcohol; having men switch from briefs to boxers; losing weight; reducing stress; and loading up on the right kinds of vitamins. But one natural boost to fertility often overlooked is a visit to your chiropractor.
For obvious reasons chiropractors are normally associated with treating musculoskeletal issues such as whiplash, lower back pain, and muscle spasms. But chiropractic treatments have a range of health benefits. According to the AmericanPregnancy.org, chiropractic care is a safe and natural method to improve body function, especially the nervous system.
In some cases, the crux of a woman’s fertility issues may be their body not running at a 100 percent. Stress, a poor diet, lack of exercise, excess weight, and other lifestyle choices can undermine attempts to conceive. Even fatigue can be a factor. Getting regular treatments from a chiropractor can not only realign your body, it can help improve circulation, having a calming effect, boost your nervous system, and provide increased overall wellness, which in turn can facilitate getting pregnant.
Many insurance companies limit the number of visits to a chiropractor they will cover, or don’t cover preventative or wellness visits at all. But when compared to the high costs of consulting a fertility specialist or trying in vitro fertilization, the cost of a chiropractic regimen is worth the investment. While those more extensive steps may ultimately be required, start with a chiropractor to see if that does the trick.
It should be mentioned that true infertility cannot be cured by chiropractors or any other medical professional. Some people are just permanently infertile. However, that is different from individuals who experience temporary infertility because of some treatable physical issue such as a dislocation of the spine, some nervous system trouble, or reproductive system condition. In the latter cases, a chiropractor can help reverse the fertility issues.
In 2003, the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research published the results of a small study where fourteen out of fifteen women were able to conceive after extended periods of chiropractic care designed to treatment their infertility. For example, one woman who hadn’t menstruated in a year resumed her regular cycle after two months of treatments and became pregnant two months after that.
In the study, how quickly the chiropractic treatments worked depended on the particular patient’s health and physiological circumstances. And while the study reported a 93 percent success rate, the authors stressed that it could take up to two years for quantifiable results. So before spending thousands on more high-tech techniques, give chiropractic treatments a chance.
