The World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC) have presented Foot Levelers chairman and chief executive officer Kent S. Greenawalt an Honor Award from the at the organization’s twelfth Biennial Congress recently held in Durban, South Africa. Greenawalt was honored for the positive impact Foot Levelers has had on the chiropractic profession both domestically and internationally.

Established in 1991, there have been 24 Honor award recipients. Greenawalt is just the eighth American to receive the award.

The Foot Levelers technology was developed around 60 years ago, in Dubuque, Iowa, by Kent’s father, Dr. Monte Greenawalt. He believed you could balance the body by balancing a patient’s feet, which in essence improved the individual’s skeletal and structural integrity. The Foot Levelers stabilizing orthotics are individually designed—taking into account foot size, gait pattern, and posture—and provides support while permitting the feet to retain their full range of motion.

Caring for the feet has long been a chiropractic staple because it restores proper motion and correct skeletal biomechanics. Feet are under constant pressure and should have as much attention as one’s back. The foot is comprised of 26 bones, 33 joints, and more than 100 ligaments, muscles, and tendons that need to work together. Proper foot biomechanics are essential for balance, support, and mobility.

Improper skeletal foot biomechanics can result in foot and lower extremities conditions, including shin splints, Achilles tendonitis, plantar faciitis, runner’s knee, and iliotibial band syndrome—all of which are caused or exacerbated by foot stress and incorrect motion. Chiropractic treatment for the foot restores correct motion and nerve flow. Orthodics are designed to help maintain the proper biomechanics

Dr. Kent Greenawalt says the award was both an honor and a surprise. He also acknowledged the important role the World Federation of Chiropractic plays to promote the industry and to improve chiropractic healthcare on an international level. To that end, Greenawalt’s Foot Levelers has worked closely with the WFC, providing speakers for its conferences.

In addition to the WFC’s Honor Award, Greenawalt was also presented with an award by the Fédération Internationale de Chiropratique du Sport (FICS) to recognize his support of sports chiropractic and Foot Levelers’ sponsorship of the FICS Assembly, which was held in conjunction with the Congress, which attracted 750 delegates from more than 40 countries. The organization is currently making a concentrated effort to bring chiropractic wellness to Africa.

Now headquartered in Roanoke, Virginia, Foot Levelers can be ordered through a health care professional. The company still reflects its founder’s vision, dedicating itself to patient wellness and education; making the public aware of the benefits of chiropractic treatments and care; philanthropy to a number of chiropractic colleges and research foundations; and financial support to local, state, and national chiropractic associations.

  1. Hello,
First, I am not in the medical field. However every time I go to one of my specialists, I enjoy studying the medical charts of our physiology. Learning what I can, I feel I can relate to the doctor in a little more of an informed frame of mind. I do wonder what they (the dr’s) think of my terminology, while trying to describe areas of pain, and/or symtems.
Thank you for making this material available !

    1. Thank you, Con! We agree with you – the more informed we are of our own health and bodies, the better able we are to care for them.
