Each vertebra in the spinal column is an extremely complex structure composed of hyaline cartilage and bone. There are a total of 12 thoracic vertebrae, five lumbar vertebrae, and seven cervical vertebrae in the human vertebral column, along with vertebrae in the sacrum and coccyx.
